For the months of May and June 2025, Animal Aid Abroad (AAA) is shining a light on the working gold mine donkeys of the Geita region in Tanzania, Africa. On World Donkey Day (May 8), we not only highlighted the need for greater attention to the plight of working donkeys in developing countries, but we also aimed to tell the story of the gold mine donkeys in Tanzania.

Horses and Oxen in India Find Relief from Illness and Injury

With assistance from your compassionate donations, Action for Protection of Wild Animals (APOWA) provided veterinary care for 104 horses and oxen in April. These working animals were treated for injuries and illnesses, and given general health checks through their mobile clinic. Preventative vaccinations were administered to 119 animals.

Blind Love Soldier on Despite Deadly Disease Outbreak

During April, our South African partner organisation, Blind Love, treated 21 donkeys and 186 horses at their outreach days. Sadly, they are still dealing with African horse sickness (AHS), which has led to the state vet banning any movement of horses in an attempt to curb the spread. Thankfully, none of the cart horses living in Thaba’nchu town have been affected by AHS so far.

Spreading Compassion for Animals in Afghanistan

With help from your generous donations, Nowzad treated 272 working equines during April. This included deworming and vaccinations.

They also focused on widescale hoof trimming as they moved into spring, with their farrier attending to 77 equines.

World Donkey Day - Serpentine Festival

We had an amazing day at the Serpentine Farm and Food Festival on May 3, teaming up with the wonderful WA Donkey Society to spread the word about World Donkey Day (May 8)! Huge thanks to Dawn and Rachael for bringing their beautiful donkeys, O'Reilley and Denzil - these gentle sweethearts were a hit, especially with the kids who couldn’t get enough of their soft noses and friendly nature.

Helping Working Horses on the Streets of India

The Friendicoes team in India assist hundreds of working animals through their Equine Mobile Clinic. They treated 810 equines during February alone. Equines were seen for various issues including colic, wounds, lameness, worms, digestive problems, skin infections or allergies, infectious diseases and dental problems. The team also vaccinated 270 animals in February.
