Helping Working Horses on the Streets of India
The Friendicoes team in India assist hundreds of working animals through their Equine Mobile Clinic. They treated 810 equines during February alone. Equines were seen for various issues including colic, wounds, lameness, worms, digestive problems, skin infections or allergies, infectious diseases and dental problems. The team also vaccinated 270 animals in February.
Here are some of the animals who were assisted thanks to your wonderful donations:
Colic
This horse presented with colic caused by dehydration. She was frequently lying down and standing up again. Painkillers and fluid therapy were administered, and laxatives were delivered via a stomach tube. The horse experienced relief following this treatment.
Lacerated foreleg wound
This unfortunate horse was injured by iron sheeting. Her wound was cleaned with antiseptics before being dressed. Antibiotics, painkillers and a tetanus vaccine were also given to help her heal.
Dog bite
A stray dog attacked this poor pony in the night, biting his hind leg. The vet team dressed the wound and administered a rabies vaccination.
Lacerated hind leg wound
A traffic accident caused this horse to slip on the road and injure herself. Her wound was properly cleaned and dressed. In addition, she was given antibiotics, painkillers and a tetanus vaccine.
Brisket wound
A loose harness caused this lacerated wound. Friendicoes treated the horse by thoroughly cleaning and dressing the wound.
Hematoma
This mare was injured when she was kicked by another animal. Friendicoes drained the wound, and administered painkillers and a tetanus vaccine.
Teeth rasping
This horse was dropping her cud, indicating pain while eating. The vet team rasped the sharp edges of her teeth, which will greatly improve her comfort.
Rescues
In addition to running their mobile clinic, Friendicoes also rescued two animals during February.
Pony Rescue
An abandoned pony was rescued from Yojna Vihar in Delhi. He was safely transported to Friendicoes’ shelter.
Donkey Rescue
An elderly donkey with a back wound was rescued from a construction site in Pari Chowk. She is now safe at the shelter.
Field Paravet Program
Friendicoes have five dedicated paravets who cover various regions of India. During February, they provided follow-up medical care for an incredible 449 equines.
All of these equines are now experiencing relief from suffering and a better quality of life thanks to you. We could not fund these programs for working animals without your loyal support and generosity, so thank you again!
