Introducing Our New Partner Group in Malawi
The Lilongwe Society for the Protection and Care of Animals (LSPCA) is one of Malawi’s leading animal welfare organisations, working to improve the lives of animals through veterinary care, education and community outreach.
In rural areas, donkeys are vital to daily life - used for transporting goods, water and firewood - but they often endure overwork, poor nutrition and untreated injuries. Over the past two years, LSPCA has had no dedicated funding for working donkey welfare. While ad hoc clinics were carried out when resources permitted, the lack of consistent support meant many donkeys went without the care they needed. As a result, the overall welfare of these animals has declined.
With renewed support from Animal Aid Abroad, LSPCA will now be able to resume regular outreach visits to rural communities, delivering much-needed veterinary care and education to areas where donkeys are most at risk.
The program will enable LSPCA to conduct veterinary clinics, repair harnesses and carts, and run training sessions for donkey owners and local animal health workers. These visits will not only address existing health problems but also help prevent future issues and foster long-term improvements in donkey welfare through sustainable, community-driven approaches.
We look forward to updating you on our partnership with LSPCA and their important work for donkeys in Malawi.
