Rescued Animals Thriving at Peaceful Sanctuary

April brought another month of love, care and kindness for the rescued animals living at Animal Nepal’s beautiful sanctuary. Please read on to see how your donations are allowing these special animals to live out their days in comfort and peace.

Last month, Tara - a rescued mule - received treatment for a leg infection, which had developed following a fracture. With timely veterinary treatment and attentive follow-up care from the team, the infection has now completely resolved. Tara is walking more comfortably and staff are keeping a close eye on his recovery to ensure he remains healthy and pain free.

Members of Animal Nepal’s board visited the sanctuary during April. One especially moving moment was the reunion between long-time equine resident Star and Animal Nepal’s founder, Pramada, who has known her since she was a young foal. Star’s joy and recognition were unmistakable. It was a beautiful reminder of the deep bonds that can form between humans and animals when trust and care are nurtured over time.

Another milestone last month was the integration of Kumari, Prawin, Kaali, and Lakshmi into the common area where the equines spend their days. Transitioning animals into shared spaces always requires patience and observation, but the team are thrilled they’ve adjusted well. While the animals naturally maintain their own small herds, they’re coexisting peacefully, showing no signs of stress or aggression. It’s heartening to witness such positive social behaviour - it speaks to the emotional intelligence of these animals and the safe environment Animal Nepal have created for them.

Meanwhile, the sanctuary’s smaller residents - including the donkeys, mini horse Apache, and hinny Haluman - are still being kept in a separate enclosure for their safety. Their smaller size makes them more vulnerable, especially in larger groups, but they are thriving in their own peaceful space with carefully-tailored care and enrichment.

Thanks to your ongoing support, all of these rescued animals can be cared for with love and dignity. Together, we’re creating a sanctuary where animals are celebrated and cherished as family.
