Nowzad also completed emergency call-outs for two horses with colic and a cow with placental abruption.
Five working animals were so ill they required hospitalisation last month. These included:

Maverick: A Symbol of Resilience
Some of you may remember Maverick, who is now part of AAA’s family of sponsored animals. You can read his full story below:
Maverick is a brave young horse who was rescued from the harsh conditions of an Afghan brick kiln in February this year. Despite being found emaciated, wounded and near death, his spirit has shone bright throughout his recovery.
Thanks to the dedicated care of Dr Reshad and the Nowzad team, Maverick received round-the-clock treatment throughout March and April at the Nowzad Animal Hospital in Kabul. Against all odds, he not only recovered but also revealed a remarkable will to live.
Recognising his resilience, Nowzad purchased Maverick to ensure he has a permanent and safe home at their sanctuary. This is the only sanctuary of its kind in the country.
Maverick’s story is a powerful reminder that even in the most challenging environments, compassion can ignite hope and create change.
Animals like Maverick can only be rescued and cared for long-term due to your immense kindness and ongoing support. Your donations are saving lives, so thank you!
