More Donkeys Receive Care in Nurturing Sanctuary
In Israel, our partner group Starting Over are continuing to care for donkeys who have often been rescued from desperate situations.
They have expressed their deepest gratitude for your compassionate support, which is changing lives and helping donkeys to heal from illness or trauma.
In April, ten donkeys left the Hope Compound, which is Starting Over’s intensive care unit.
Three donkeys with leg disorders spent the winter at the compound. Now the weather is warm and the ground is dry, they have been released back into the larger herds who live outdoors.
A weak and malnourished donkey also spent the winter at the compound. After gaining weight, she was released into the rehabilitated herd.
Additionally, six jennies left the compound and entered the quarantined area. They will soon be transported to France, where new homes await them. The group includes a mother and daughter, and four older jennies. The jennies were in the compound since they required special feeding, which they will continue to receive in their new homes.
Also in April, twelve donkeys entered the Hope Compound:
Five donkeys needed extra care due to dermatological conditions. Two jennies had skin growths removed and needed observation. Another older jenny with sensitive skin needed regular treatment and observation. One jenny has hypersensitivity to insect bites, and another donkey with a recurrent skin yeast infection required daily treatments.
Three donkeys entered the compound due to hoof-related conditions. Two jennies had hoof abscesses needing treatment. Another jenny with a history of recurrent hoof abscess entered the compound for treatments designed to rehabilitate her hooves.
Two jennies entered the compound to gain weight. One of them had been released from the compound during the previous month but did not seem to adjust to living with a large herd. The other jenny required closer observation by staff members as she seems to be in a late stage of her pregnancy. The last jenny to enter the compound needed treatment for corneal ulceration.
With your wonderful donations, Starting Over can continue rescuing, treating and caring for these special donkeys. Thank you for the crucial role you are playing in improving their lives.
