Horses and Oxen in India Find Relief from Illness and Injury
With assistance from your compassionate donations, Action for Protection of Wild Animals (APOWA) provided veterinary care for 104 horses and oxen in April. These working animals were treated for injuries and illnesses, and given general health checks through their mobile clinic. Preventative vaccinations were administered to 119 animals.
A few of the conditions the vets treated during April included: eye infections, food poisoning, fever, worms, injuries and nerve inflammation.
Additionally, APOWA provided educational sessions for owners on proper care to ensure the long-term health and wellbeing of their animals. These sessions cover information regarding animal health and welfare, and good husbandry practices.
APOWA also run a helpline desk service, which provides owners with the opportunity to discuss their animals' health directly with a veterinarian and ensures animals receive care promptly. This helpline benefited 35 owners and their animals last month.
One of APOWA’s projects involves providing community members with first aid kids and training them in basic medical care for working animals in need. During April, these Working Animal Champions provided first aid for 58 bullocks. This project is reducing the immediate pain and suffering of working animals.
With your fantastic ongoing support, APOWA can continue improving the lives and welfare of horses and oxen in India.
