Spreading Compassion for Animals in Afghanistan
With help from your generous donations, Nowzad treated 272 working equines during April. This included deworming and vaccinations.
They also focused on widescale hoof trimming as they moved into spring, with their farrier attending to 77 equines.
Dukuchhap Animal Sanctuary - Finding Healing, Freedom and Dignity
Animal Nepal’s Dukuchhap Animal Sanctuary is a permanent refuge for animals rescued from cruelty, neglect and exploitation. Many of our residents are former working equines - donkeys, horses, and mules who spent their lives hauling heavy loads in brick kilns and trekking routes. Here, they find healing, freedom and the dignity they were long denied.

World Donkey Day - Serpentine Festival
We had an amazing day at the Serpentine Farm and Food Festival on May 3, teaming up with the wonderful WA Donkey Society to spread the word about World Donkey Day (May 8)! Huge thanks to Dawn and Rachael for bringing their beautiful donkeys, O'Reilley and Denzil - these gentle sweethearts were a hit, especially with the kids who couldn’t get enough of their soft noses and friendly nature.
Helping Working Horses on the Streets of India
The Friendicoes team in India assist hundreds of working animals through their Equine Mobile Clinic. They treated 810 equines during February alone. Equines were seen for various issues including colic, wounds, lameness, worms, digestive problems, skin infections or allergies, infectious diseases and dental problems. The team also vaccinated 270 animals in February.

The Lilongwe Society for the Protection and Care of Animals (LSPCA) is one of Malawi’s leading animal welfare organisations, working to improve the lives of animals through veterinary care, education and community outreach.
Milestone Reached as Last Rubbish-Collecting Horses Retire
Gili Trawangan, a popular motor-free island destination in Indonesia, has long relied on horses to transport goods and collect waste. As tourism boomed, the amount of daily waste produced rose to 15–20 tonnes, placing an increasing burden on these working animals.
Blindlove Continues to Help Animals Despite Recent Challenges
Our partner group in South Africa, Blindlove, had a heartbreaking month in March. They dealt with a shocking case of cruelty and an outbreak of the deadly African horse sickness.
Despite these setbacks, the team managed to conduct multiple community outreach days, where they reached 32 working donkeys and 115 horses.
Changing Attitudes Towards Donkeys in Tanzania
Between January and March, Lake Zone Animal Welfare Organization (LAZAWO) provided veterinary care for no less than 740 working donkeys in the Musoma region of Tanzania.
Such a huge number of donkeys could only be assisted due to your compassionate donations for working animals.
Over 400 Working Camels Receive Essential Vet Care
In March, the dedicated team at the Camel Rescue Centre (CRC) in Bassi, India, assisted a whopping 457 camels in need of veterinary care. You can read the stories of two camels below. . .
