Over 400 Working Camels Receive Essential Vet Care
In March, the dedicated team at the Camel Rescue Centre (CRC) in Bassi, India, assisted a whopping 457 camels in need of veterinary care. You can read the stories of two camels below. . .
Case One
While the CRC team were visiting Palawala with their mobile clinic, they saw a camel who was suffering from abdominal pain and had not eaten properly for a few days.
Following examination, treatment was given for colic, impaction and dehydration. The camel’s owner called the next day to say thank you, as his camel’s health had already improved.
Case Two
A camel herd owner called Raju called the CRC to ask for help. One of his camels had delivered a calf the previous night and had suffered a prolapsed uterus a few hours later.
Since this was an emergency, the CRC team rushed to the site. The unfortunate camel’s uterus was on the ground, filled with sand and blood. After cleaning it thoroughly, the prolapse was fixed under sedation.
Fluids, antibiotics and painkillers were given and intrauterine medicines were also administered to prevent infection. The owner was advised to observe his camel for at least 24 hours but, thankfully, everything turned out well.
Along with providing many camels with veterinary care in March, the CRC also issued 34 nose pegs and 36 cart reflectors to prevent camels being hit on busy roads at night.
In addition, they treated hundreds of other animals, including:
238 dogs,
2 cats,
46 cattle and buffaloes,
446 goats,
4 horses,
3 rabbits,
1 bird.
Vet teams like those from the CRC can only assist all these animals due to your incredible support and generous donations. Thank you so much for caring and for making an enormous difference in the lives of countless animals.
