The Camel Rescue Centre (CRC) - run by Help in Suffering - is one of our partner groups in India focused on assisting working camels. Thanks to your kind support, they helped no less than 446 camels during May.

Below are two cases that stood out:

On May 19, a large senior dog named Gigantón was found tied near the doors of Samaha’s Garden - an animal rescue centre in Turkey. At approximately 10 years old, he had spent his life as a livestock guardian until he became too old to serve and, like many others before him, was discarded.

No More Rubbish Collection Ponies!

We’re absolutely thrilled to share some incredible news — the era of rubbish collection ponies on Gili Trawangan has officially come to an end!

With your invaluable donations and support, the Visakha Society for Protection and Care of Animals (VSPCA) are caring for 62 rescued working animals - 58 buffaloes and four horses - in two Indian shelters.

It is with the heaviest of hearts that we share some incredibly sad news about our latest sponsored animal, Maverick. Many of you will remember his story – the emaciated horse Nowzad found back in February, utterly resigned to his fate amidst the bleak brick kilns of Afghanistan.

May was an exciting month for our partner sanctuary in Israel, Starting Over, as 58 rescued donkeys were transported successfully to Europe. The 58 donkeys were sent to three sanctuaries in France, as well as to several private homes.

You may remember the camel sanctuary we set up in Shaitrawa, India, in partnership with Friendicoes. There are now 63 residents at the sanctuary, who are all being supported due to your generosity and compassion!

During May, Action for Protection of Wild Animals (APOWA) in India treated 101 working horses and oxen through their mobile clinic. Their free clinic particularly benefits animals whose owners are unable to afford veterinary care.

Our partner group, Friendicoes, recently organized a much-needed mule treatment camp in Kedarnath, India. This was in response to an outbreak of equine influenza that affected many animals in the region. Prompt action was taken to isolate the affected animals and provide them with appropriate medical care to control the spread of the infection.

Animal Nepal recently welcomed a buffalo calf who has already captured our hearts. He was rescued from being sacrificed at the Gadhimai Festival in December 2024 and spent a few quiet months at a farm in the Terai region. But because he was the only animal at the farm, Animal Nepal grew concerned about his emotional wellbeing and decided to bring him to their sanctuary, so he could find companionship and care.
