Creating a More Compassionate World for Working Camels
The Camel Rescue Centre (CRC) - run by Help in Suffering - is one of our partner groups in India focused on assisting working camels. Thanks to your kind support, they helped no less than 446 camels during May.
Below are two cases that stood out:
Case One
An owner called Ramakaran brought his camel to see the CRC team as his camel had accidentally hit a tree branch and injured his eye.
Upon examination, the vet team discovered the eye was whitish and opaque, with some pus discharge. This was a case of corneal opacity. Thankfully, the camel had not lost his vision completely. Dr Himanshu administered some injectable medication along with ocular drops.
After two weeks, Ramakaran met the CRC team again and reported that the opacity was decreasing and his camel’s vision had improved.

Case Two
A camel belonging to Babulal had been showing signs of lameness in one of his legs for a few days. Babulal said that one day his camel tripped on a stone on the road. Since then, he was experiencing pain in his front toe.
Upon examination, the vet team found the camel was showing pain when pressure was applied to his toe.
Injectable and oral medicines were administered to provide the camel with relief from pain and swelling.
Daily Clinics and Monthly Camp
During May, the CRC team also treated 112 working horses, goats, dogs, cats, cows, sheep and even rabbits for a variety different ailments.
Some came in for deworming and vaccinations.

With your generous donations, we will continue to support the CRC’s essential programs for working camels and other animals. Together, we are alleviating suffering and creating a more compassionate world for these often-forgotten animals.
