From Neglect to Compassion: Changing the Fate of Male Calves in India
In India, newborn male calves are often taken to temples as religious offerings. Following this, they may be cruelly abandoned and left to starve. However, one of our partner groups - the Visakha Society for Protection and Care of Animals (VSPCA) - are dedicated to changing the fate of these innocent calves through rescue, rehoming and education.

A Month of Challenges & Joys at Animal Nepal’s Sanctuary
For Animal Nepal, August was a month of both challenges and reassurance as they continued caring for their beloved residents.
One of their oldest and most cherished sanctuary members, Markhu, has been facing increasing health difficulties. Markhu has been with them for over a decade, arriving more than 10 years ago with a serious case of tendonitis in his front left leg.
More Donkeys Benefitting from Veterinary Care in Zambia
With your generous support, the Zambezi Working Donkey Project (ZWDP) exceeded their target for August and treated 300 donkeys! August was one of their busiest months so far this year, with the number of donkeys treated and owners receiving support increasing by 54% and 50% respectively.
With your ongoing support, they are well on their way towards achieving a Zambia where working donkeys are free from suffering and treated with compassion.
Donkeys Find Hope & Healing in Israeli Sanctuary
Your heartfelt donations are helping to care for 44 rescued donkeys living in Starting Over’s sanctuary in Israel. Five new residents were welcomed last month.
Over 1,000 Mules Receive Essential Veterinary Care
With help from your generous donations, Friendicoes were able to hold another treatment camp for mules in Kedarnath during August. A dedicated veterinary team was stationed on site to provide essential medical care to working equines in the region.
Education Paves the Way for Improving the Lives of Working Donkeys
Thanks to your wonderful support, the Lilongwe Society for the Protection and Care of Animals (LSPCA) have made great strides towards improving the welfare of working donkeys through veterinary care and community education.

Meet Beauty: Rescued from a Life of Overwork and Neglect
Beauty is a remarkably resilient horse who has had a very difficult life so far, but is now firmly on the road to recovery after being rescued by our partner group, Nowzad. Freed from a harsh life of overwork and neglect, he is finally getting the care he deserves. Beauty also happens to be the very first rescued animal to arrive at Nowzad’s new sanctuary in Kabul, Afghanistan.
Special Dental Vet Fundraiser to Help Donkeys in Tanzania
Huge thanks to the team at Dental Vet Clinic in Forrestdale, Perth, for hosting a special Gastroscopy Fundraiser Day. Together, they raised $210!
These proceeds will go towards helping our partner group - LAZAWO in Tanzania - deliver tetanus booster vaccinations for 500 working donkeys.
Gentle Wollie Can Finally Retire in Peaceful Sanctuary
Blind Love in South Africa recently rescued a beautiful, elderly donkey called Wollie and welcomed him to their sanctuary. He will retire there following a lifetime of hard work and is estimated to be 40 years old!
In addition, the team treated 16 donkeys and 104 horses during their outreach days.
Camel Calves Saved + Hundreds of Other Animals Treated
Help in Suffering’s Camel Rescue Centre (CRC) in India reached 245 camels and 523 other animals in July. They provided veterinary care for conditions including colic, eye infections, skin diseases, wounds and worms.
