Meet Beauty: Rescued from a Life of Overwork and Neglect
Beauty is a remarkably resilient horse who has had a very difficult life so far, but is now firmly on the road to recovery after being rescued by our partner group, Nowzad. Freed from a harsh life of overwork and neglect, he is finally getting the care he deserves. Beauty also happens to be the very first rescued animal to arrive at Nowzad’s new sanctuary in Kabul, Afghanistan.
This beautiful white horse is part of a larger story involving hundreds and hundreds of horses every year who are traded across borders in South Asia - particularly from countries like Pakistan and Iran to Afghanistan - to work in demanding industries like brick kilns. These animals often endure a long and traumatic journey on trucks across countries, arriving in Kabul in extremely poor conditions, even before they begin their gruelling work.
Beauty’s biggest challenge upon rescue was acute weakness and significant weight loss due to malnutrition and dehydration. Thankfully, Beauty is now eating properly and is getting stronger every day.
While he is making remarkable progress, Beauty does have a permanent injury on one of his feet, which probably occurred during one of the truck journeys he must have made to Kabul. This is a common condition for working animals but is thankfully manageable with ongoing care at Nowzad’s sanctuary.
Despite the pain he is obviously in, Beauty is already thriving and his sweet, gentle nature is shining through as he continues on his journey towards health and happiness.
Beauty will now be included in AAA’s sponsorship program for rescued working animals, which is funded by your compassionate donations. Welcome to our sponsorship family, Beauty!
