Camel Calves Saved + 768 Other Animals Benefit from Treatment

Help in Suffering’s Camel Rescue Centre (CRC) in India reached 245 camels and 523 other animals in July. They provided veterinary care for conditions including colic, eye infections, skin diseases, wounds and worms.

Two cases stood out in particular:

Case One

One day, a camel owner Puran called the CRC team because many of his calves had swelling around their mouths and eyes. Puran asked if the vet team could please do something to help.

Upon reaching the site, the CRC found many of the young calves were suffering from contagious ecthyma. This is a common disease in young calves, which causes great discomfort due to pox-like lesions around the mouth and nose.

The vet team started treatment with antibiotics, pain killers and antiseptic solution. After two days, most of the calves had started to improve with a reduction in the amount of swelling and discomfort. They were beginning to eat more too.

Puran was very happy as this viral disease can become fatal for many calves. He expressed his gratitude to the CRC team.

Case Two

When the team visited the village Sambhariya, they met with an owner who works at a local brick kiln. He brought his camel along for treatment of a maggot wound in the nose.

The vet team treated it with maggot-killing medicines and injectables.

As well as treating these camels, the CRC treated 523 other patients throughout July, including horses, goats, dogs, cows, sheep and goats. They were suffering from a wide variety of different ailments. Some were brought in for deworming and vaccination.
