Meet Maverick - Our Newest Sponsored Horse

We reported on a poor horse recently who was rescued by Nowzad after being found severely malnourished and overworked almost to death. The horse has been named Maverick, and he is continuing to improve thanks to the compassionate Nowzad team - and your incredible support.

AAA are planning to add him to our sponsorship program to ensure he can be cared for at the sanctuary in Afghanistan permanently.

Education Key to Preventing Donkey Abuse in Zambia

With assistance from your generous donations, the Zambezi Working Donkey Project (ZWDP) have made further strides towards their vision of a Zambia where working donkeys are free from suffering, treated with compassion and truly valued by the people who rely on them.

During March, the ZWDP team reached 268 donkeys in six villages, providing them with essential veterinary treatments. They educated 38 owners on how to properly care for their working animals, and replaced eight inhumane ox yokes with padded harnesses.

Raising the Welfare of Working Animals in India

Our partner group, Action for Protection of Wild Animals (APOWA), provided veterinary services for 102 working horses and bullocks in March. The team also vaccinated an incredible 296 animals and dewormed many others. This was only made possible due to your continuing support and compassionate donations.

Through APOWA’s mobile clinic, working animals were provided with treatment for various injuries and illnesses, and received general health checkups. Some conditions seen included colic, food poisoning, worms, fevers caused by viruses, skin infections and eye infections.

Camel Camp in Rajasthan a Huge Success

Thanks to your kind donations, Help in Suffering (HIS) organised a special camp for sick camels during the Nagaur Fair in February. Nagaur is a town in Rajasthan and people gather here during the fair to trade animals including camels and horses.

The HIS team treated 417 sick camels during their week-long camp.

Vet Team Reach Hundreds of Camels in Thar Desert

Our fantastic partner group, Help in Suffering, organised a free camel treatment camp in February in Jaisalmer. The camp team consisted of two vets and four vet assistants.

Jaisalmer is situated in famous Thar Desert. The main attraction for tourists here are camel rides. However, because the area is so remote, camels do not usually receive any veterinary care. Their owners also cannot afford treatment for their animals.

Caring for Tanzanian Donkeys Working in Harsh Mining Conditions

Lake Zone Animal Welfare Organization (LAZAWO) have been hard at work assisting donkeys at the gold mines of Geita, Tanzania. Working conditions at these mines are extremely harsh for both donkeys and miners.

However, with your support, LAZAWO reached 367 donkeys at this location in February. The vet team treated donkeys for conditions including wounds, cherry eye and abscess, colic, tetanus, and tick and worm infestations.
