Meet Maverick - Our Newest Sponsored Horse

We reported on a poor horse recently who was rescued by Nowzad after being found severely malnourished and overworked almost to death. The horse has been named Maverick, and he is continuing to improve thanks to the compassionate Nowzad team - and your incredible support. AAA are planning to add him to our sponsorship program to ensure he can be cared for at the sanctuary in Afghanistan permanently.

Last month, Nowzad treated 119 working donkeys and horses for a variety of ailments and found their new portable x-ray machine very handy. They focussed particularly on hoof trimming, with their farrier attending to 42 horses.

In addition to treating working equines, the Nowzad vet team also assisted 28 other animals last month, including dairy cows, sheep, goats and even deer. The animals were either seen through their mobile clinic or at the hospital.

Some ailments requiring veterinary care during March included:

  • Limping,

  • Harness wounds,

  • Gynecology (Placenta closure, Dystocia, Mastitis),

  • Hypocalcaemia,

  • Enucleation (two cases),

  • Respiratory issues,

  • Diarrhoea,

  • Body pain.

Thank you so much for your ongoing support. With your heartfelt donations, AAA can continue supporting Nowzad’s program to ensure working animals in Afghanistan have lives worth living.
