Dedicated Vet Team Changing the Lives of Animals in Afghanistan

During November, Nowzad’s dedicated veterinary team provided essential care for 145 working equines. This included preventative care such as deworming and vaccinations. In addition, they assisted 27 other animals including cows, calves and goats.

Some of the ailments recently treated by Nowzad included:

  • Respiratory issues

  • Wounds

  • Colic

  • Limping

  • Anorexia / malnutrition / weakness

  • Chronic pain

  • Broken leg

  • Hypocalcaemia

  • Oesophagus obstruction

  • Eye infection

They also attended an emergency call out for a horse with colic.

 The team held no less than 19 mobile veterinary clinics last month.

Five animals were admitted to their hospital during November for serious conditions, including:

  • 1 donkey who was limping

  • 3 horses for limping, a wound and weakness

  • 1 cow for traumatic reticuloperitonitis (‘hardware disease’)

Nowzad’s farrier attended to 18 horses, donkeys and goats.

Twenty-two humane harnesses and 49 warm blankets were distributed for working horses, donkeys and even cows.

Education sessions were held during November, teaching owners about proper care and welfare for their animals.
