Meet our newest sponsored pony: Jerry-sausage
Thanks to your incredible support, we have taken on sponsorship of another rescued equine on the Gili Islands of Indonesia. Jerry-Sausage had a rough start to life as he was mistreated and forced to pull a cart that was too heavy for him.
Read his story below:
Jerry-Sausage was rescued in 2017 after we repeatedly saw him being used to pull a cart carrying several grown men. He was clearly very young - less than two years old - frightened, underweight, and heavily burdened with worms. Despite being far too small and weak for such work, he was already being trained as a cart horse.
One day we witnessed him being whipped as he struggled to pull the heavy load up a hill. He simply didn’t have the strength to move forward, yet the beating continued.
In that moment, we knew we had to step in. We approached his handler and offered money so Jerry-Sausage could be handed over and given a different future.
Since his rescue, Jerry-Sausage has brought endless joy to everyone at Stud Riding and Rescue with his enormous personality and gentle nature. Due to poor conformation and ongoing knee problems, he is often lame, meaning a working life was never going to be possible for him.
Today, Jerry-Sausage lives a safe and happy life in our care, enjoying beach walks, daily grooming sessions and - most importantly - the love and kindness every animal deserves.
