warmer days bring comfort & wellbeing for rescued animals in nepal
At Animal Nepal’s special sanctuary, all the residents are currently healthy and well following a challenging start to the year. They have recently been enjoying more sunny days following the winter months.

We are happy to report that all of our residents have been doing well this month. After a challenging start to the year for some of our animals, it has been reassuring to see everyone settled, comfortable, and enjoying the gradual change in weather as winter begins to ease.
February was a particularly special month for us as we welcomed the Year of the Flying Horse, in accordance with the Tibetan New Year. This is a meaningful time across the Himalayan region, symbolising strength, vitality, and forward movement —qualities that deeply resonate with our work and with the resilient animals in our care. It also offered another important opportunity for us to raise awareness and advocate for the welfare of working donkeys, mules, and horses across Nepal. These animals continue to play an essential role in rural livelihoods, yet their welfare is often overlooked. Moments like this allow us to highlight their contributions and the importance of compassionate care.
The weather has been especially pleasant in recent weeks, with mild temperatures and sunny days bringing comfort to our animals. The warmer conditions are particularly beneficial for our older residents and those living with chronic injuries or joint stiffness. Many of our rescued mules, who once labored in brick kilns and carry the lasting effects of old leg injuries, appear more comfortable as the days warm. We often see them resting in the sun or moving more freely around their paddocks - small but meaningful signs of improved wellbeing.
Over the past several months, we have also been engaging with a number of candidates and political parties to advocate for stronger protections for animals. Our discussions have focused on the urgent need to include animal welfare considerations in national policies and development planning. Donkeys, mules, horses, cattle, and buffaloes contribute immensely to livelihoods across the country, yet their welfare remains largely absent from policy discussions. While it remains to be seen who will ultimately form the next government, our commitment to advocating for animals will continue regardless.
As always, we remain deeply grateful for the continued support from Animal Aid Abroad. Your partnership enables us to provide lifelong care, medical treatment, and a safe home for our rescued and retired working animals. With your support, we look forward to continuing our work in the months ahead — improving the lives of animals already in our care while advocating for better protection for working animals throughout Nepal.
We remain grateful for the continued support and compassion of Animal Aid Abroad and their donors. Your generosity allows us to care for some of the most vulnerable animals at our sanctuary.
