Over 700 Working Equines in India Given Veterinary Care + 2 New Rescues
In May, Friendicoes’ Mobile Clinic, supported by Animal Aid Abroad (AAA), reached 760 working equines across New Delhi and surrounding regions. These horses, donkeys, and mules — often forgotten as they labor on city streets and in brick kilns — received veterinary care, compassionate treatment, and dignity thanks to your generous support.
May Overview: Veterinary Care at Scale
Across the month, equines were treated for a wide range of conditions:
Colic – 21 cases
Wound dressing – 235 cases
Lameness – 210 cases
Deworming – 270 cases
Digestive problems – 254 cases
Vaccination – 230 cases
Skin infections – 15 cases
Infectious diseases – 14 cases
Dental problems – 8 cases
Farrier care – 95 cases
This comprehensive care reflects AAA’s mission: preventing suffering, providing treatment, and ensuring working animals live healthier, safer lives.
Case Studies: Compassion in Action
Colic: Horses suffering dehydration and abdominal pain were stabilized with pain relief and fluid therapy.
Lacerated wounds: Severe injuries caused by sharp fencing wire were cleaned, dressed, and treated with antibiotics, painkillers, and tetanus vaccines.
Abscesses: Incorrect injections led to abscesses that were drained, disinfected, and treated with medication.
Caring for Brick Kiln Equines
The team also provided comprehensive veterinary care for horses and mules working in brick kilns — environments where animals often endure extreme workloads and poor conditions.
May Rescues: New Lives at the Sanctuary
Donkey rescue: A donkey with a severe back wound was rescued from Shadhara, Delhi, and brought to safety.
Horse rescue: A retired Haryana Police mount horse was rescued and given sanctuary care.
These rescues highlight AAA’s commitment to ensuring animals exploited for both labour and non‑essential human use receive lifelong protection and dignity.
Paravet Program: Extending Reach
Friendicoes’ paravet team provided medical and follow‑up care for 489 equines across New Delhi, Agra, Bharatpur, Jewar, and Mathura. This grassroots outreach ensures that working animals receive ongoing support even in remote or underserved areas.
Turning Burden into Care
With your compassionate donations, AAA and Friendicoes will continue reaching thousands of working equines in India — bringing them veterinary care, comfort, and relief. Together, we are proving that local partnerships are the key to global change — turning burden into care and ensuring equines live with compassion, dignity, and hope.
