transforming suffering into care & dignity for india’s working camels

With help from your generous donations, the Camel Rescue Centre (CRC) in India alleviate suffering and pain for working camels. Last month, they provided care and treatment for 328 camels, and also reached 592 animals other than camels.

Although they treat hundreds of animals each month, two camels’ stories stood out:

Story One

At the Laxmipura treatment site, Puran brought his camel to our team after she developed signs of severe abdominal discomfort.

The camel appeared restless, repeatedly changing position and showing clear signs of pain. Seeing his animal suffer was deeply concerning for Puran.

Our veterinary team responded promptly, providing immediate care and fluid therapy for colic.

With timely treatment and close monitoring, the camel gradually became calmer and more comfortable. Watching his camel recover brought great relief to Puran, who was grateful for the support provided during this emergency.

Story Two

At the Lalsot treatment site, Prahlad brought his camel to us after noticing problems with both his eye and mouth. The camel was finding it difficult to eat comfortably and appeared to have reduced vision in one eye.

Concerned about his animal's declining condition, Prahlad sought veterinary assistance. Our team carefully examined the camel and diagnosed corneal opacity along with stomatitis.

Treatment was started immediately, and the owner was guided on proper care and feeding. With timely intervention, the camel's discomfort began to reduce, giving Prahlad hope and reassurance that his precious animal could recover and return to normal health.

Cases from Daily Clinics & Monthly Camp

In May, we saw many working horses, goats, dogs, cows and sheep suffering from a variety of ailments. Some came for deworming and vaccination.

In the daily clinic and monthly camp, we treated 592 animals other than camels.

Goat Case

Nanagram brought his goat to our CRC after noticing she had become weak, uncomfortable, and was not eating properly. Concerned about the goat’s health, he sought help from our veterinary team.

Upon examination, the goat was diagnosed with enteritis, a condition that can cause significant discomfort and affect the animal's overall well-being. Our team provided the correct treatment and supportive care, including fluid therapy, to help the goat recover. We also advised Nanagram on proper feeding, clean water, and ongoing care to support healing.

Seeing his goat receive timely attention brought Nanagram great relief, and he left the centre hopeful that she would soon regain her strength and return to normal health.

With your compassionate support, the CRC team will continue to provide care, relief, comfort and dignity to hundreds of camels and other animals in their region of India.
