transforming suffering into comfort, relief & dignity for working camels in india

Due to your wonderful support, the Camel Rescue Centre (CRC) in India provides hundreds of animals each month with relief from pain and suffering. In July, the caring veterinary team treated 223 camels for various ailments. They also provided assistance for 451 other animals, including working horses, goats and cows.

Read a few of the animals’ stories below:

from pain to supportive care: treating stomatitis

Gangasahai brought his camel to our Brahmpuri treatment site after noticing she was having difficulty eating and appeared uncomfortable while feeding. The camel was also showing signs of irritation in her mouth, which had begun affecting her appetite and daily activity.

Our team diagnosed stomatitis, which involves inflammation of the oral tissues leading to pain and difficulty eating. Appropriate treatment was provided to reduce the inflammation and discomfort, along with supportive care to help the camel maintain her strength.

Gangasahai was advised to provide soft, easily digestible feed and clean drinking water, and monitor his camel closely. He was relieved to receive timely veterinary support and felt hopeful his camel would recover quickly.

healing a severe saddle wound

A camel owned by Ramu arrived at our Langariyawas treatment site with a saddle sore and corneal opacity. The saddle area was examined to determine the extent of tissue damage, then was cleaned thoroughly and dressed to promote healing and prevent secondary infection. Antibiotic and anti-inflammatory medications were provided to relieve the camel’s discomfort.

The affected eye was also examined and appropriate ophthalmic treatment was initiated for corneal opacity.

The owner was advised to maintain wound hygiene, prevent further pressure from the saddle and provide his camel with adequate rest. The camel’s healing will be regularly followed up.

over 400 other animals assisted

In July, we saw 451 animals other than camels, including working horses, goats, dogs, cows and sheep.

Some suffered from medical ailments and required treatment, whereas other animals just received deworming and vaccinations.

Buffalo finds relief from irritation

Devki brought her buffalo to our CRC centre after noticing she was increasingly irritated and uncomfortable. Upon examination, our team found a significant tick infestation on the animal's body. The ticks were causing irritation and would have affected the buffalo's health if left untreated.

We provided appropriate treatment to control the infestation and advised Devki on maintaining the buffalo’s hygiene and regularly checking her skin for ticks. She was also guided on keeping the animal's resting area clean to reduce the risk of reinfestation.

Devki was relieved her buffalo had received timely care and left the centre reassured that with continued attention and proper management, her animal could remain healthy and comfortable in future.

With you by their side, the team at CRC will continue reaching many camels and other animals in India to provide them with the relief, comfort and dignity they deserve.
