special sanctuary in israel celebrates nine years of rescuing donkeys in need
Starting Over in Israel recently celebrated the 9th anniversary of their donkey sanctuary. Thanks to your compassionate support, they are currently caring for 81 rescued animals, including four orphaned foals and many donkeys with complex needs.
See how your generous donations are transforming the lives of these donkeys:
In August, 12 donkeys entered the Hope Complex:
Four young orphans who need special feeding to help them gain weight entered together with a mother and her son, as some of the orphans are bonded to the mother.
Two elderly donkeys who need special feeding entered from the infirmary so they can enjoy a larger, more open space.
A mother and her foal were moved to the complex because the mother is very thin and needs special feeding to help her gain weight.
One jenny was moved to the complex for pregnancy monitoring.
A donkey who is relatively new to the sanctuary was moved to the complex after an initial adjustment period in the infirmary. He is disabled and arrived with a severely deformed leg as a result of an old injury that was never treated.
Nine donkeys left the Hope Complex last month:
Four donkeys completed their special hoof-trimming treatments and, in good condition, moved to another herd.
Two elderly jennies who are receiving special feeding to help them gain weight were moved to the infirmary, where they can receive more intensive monitoring and care from the medical staff.
A mother and her two offspring moved to the mothers-and-youngsters’ enclosure after her younger son had grown enough to make the move.
We are deeply grateful for your meaningful support, which allows us to provide these beautiful donkeys with all the intensive love and care they need to thrive.
