Remembering our lost colleague: Emmanuel Peter Mollel
Animal Aid Abroad is very saddened to share the tragic loss of our Tanzanian paravet and colleague, Emmanuel Peter Mollel. He died following a motorbike accident while travelling to provide follow-up treatment to a donkey in our care in Magenge on the morning of Wednesday, 15th of April.
Mollel dedicated his professional life to improving the welfare of working donkeys in the Geita region of Tanzania.
Over more than five years working with our Bukombe and Geita programs, he became a highly skilled and compassionate paravet, known for his tireless dedication in often difficult conditions.
Day after day, he worked on the front line—treating injuries, preventing disease, and educating owners about how to provide better care for their donkeys. His work made a real difference in the lives of countless donkeys.
The loss of Mollel is therefore not only deeply felt by our team, but is also a significant blow to donkey welfare efforts in the region.
Mollel was a respected colleague and friend to our Geita team—Dr Kagaruki, Leocardia, Dr Zacharia and Dr Neil Brimson—as well as the AAA team in Australia. His dedication, kindness and quiet resolve left a lasting impression on everyone privileged enough to work with him.
At just 45 years old, Mollel leaves behind his wife and four children, who depended on him for their daily needs and education. He was laid to rest in his home village of Karatu, approximately 800 km away, on Saturday, 18th of April.
In recognition of his invaluable contribution and the profound loss to his family, colleagues and our program, Animal Aid Abroad is launching an appeal to cover the costs incurred due to his tragic accident. This will help to avoid any financial burden on his family during this difficult time, and replace the motorbike and equipment lost in the accident.
The driver of the bus that caused Mollel's death has been detained and is in jail. We are awaiting the court case, which we hope will provide answers and peace for his colleagues, along with the AAA team here in Australia, as well as compensation for his family.
If you would like to assist with the costs related to Mollel’s medical and funeral expenses, including a replacement motorbike and equipment, you can make a donation via this link (please reference “Mollel”), or make a direct bank deposit using these details:
