A New Chapter in Colombia: Welcoming Namigni Animal Sanctuary to the Animal Aid Abroad Family

We’re thrilled to announce a powerful new partnership between Animal Aid Abroad and Namigni Animal Sanctuary - a dedicated rescue and rehabilitation centre based in the highlands of Colombia. This marks our first formal alliance in South America and it’s already making a life-saving impact.

In the very first week of collaboration, four equines in urgent need were rescued and brought to safety at Namigni. Each of them carries a story of hardship, resilience and hope:

Hada – The Retired Matriarch

Hada is a 17-year-old Belgian draft mare who suffers from chronic joint pain and was discarded after years of labour. Now safe, Hada is receiving diagnostic care and is expected to enjoy a pain-free retirement.

Enzo – The Orphaned Fighter

Enzo is an 18-month-old Belgian draft colt with a permanent limb deformity who was orphaned shortly after birth. Enzo was rescued from the same farm as Hada, and the bond between them is extraordinary - she’s adopted him, and he never leaves her side.

Coral – The Gentle Survivor

Coral is a two-year-old female donkey with a disabling leg condition. Her owner offered her up with a chilling ultimatum: find a solution or she’d be sent to slaughter. Coral is now safe and pain-free, with gentle orthopaedic support being considered.

Koala – The Spirit that Refused to Break

This eight-year-old male donkey endured years of abuse from multiple owners. Labelled “unmanageable” for resisting forced labour, Koala was at risk of being sold for his skin and meat. Now at Namigni sanctuary, he’s receiving the care and patience he needs to heal from trauma.

This partnership goes beyond rescue. Starting in November, Animal Aid Abroad and Namigni will launch monthly mobile clinics across rural Colombia - bringing veterinary care, welfare support and education to communities where countless horses, mules and donkeys endure heavy labor with little to no medical attention.

These clinics will not only treat working equines but also engage owners through practical education, thereby empowering them with knowledge to improve animal welfare and prevent suffering before it begins.

Together, we’re building a model of compassion, resilience, and change - one that reaches beyond the sanctuary gates and into the heart of Colombia’s working animal communities.

Stay tuned for updates on Hada, Enzo, Coral, and Koala as they begin their healing journeys. And thank you for being part of a global movement of people who refuse to look away.

Please remember that all the impact delivered by Animal Aid Abroad across countries around the world stems from your generous support. Because every working animal deserves a life free from pain - and a future filled with hope.
