Creating a Kinder World for Working Camels
Help in Suffering’s Camel Rescue Centre (CRC) treated an incredible 734 working camels for various ailments throughout June. They also fitted 10 camel carts with reflectors, which prevent road accidents.
You can find the stories of two camels below:
Case One
Yadram from the village Heerawala brought his camel to the CRC clinic. His camel had not been eating well for three to four days and was also passing sparce, dry faeces. Dr Himanshu found the camel was suffering from a high body temperature, which was causing his loss of appetite.
He was treated with both injectable and oral medicines. The following week, the CRC team visited Heerawala and found the camel working again. The owner was very happy with his camel’s recovery and thanked CRC for their help.
Case Two
While visiting Sambharia village, the CRC team saw a camel who had been suffering from a saddle sore for two weeks. The owner had taken his camel to a government vet clinic where they injected some medication; however, the camel’s condition had worsened.
The CRC vet found the wound was extensive enough to cause great discomfort and pain for the poor animal. They cleaned the wound with topical antiseptics, and administered antibiotics and painkillers. The vet advised the owner to stop working his camel immediately and take great care of the wound.
Daily clinics / monthly camp
In June, the CRC team also assisted 203 animals other than camels, including dogs, cats, cows, horses, goats and rabbits. They were brought in for various ailments, or for deworming and vaccination.
As always, we cannot thank you enough for your ongoing support and generous donations. Together, we are alleviating suffering and creating a kinder world for camels and all working animals.
