Over 400 Working Camels Receive Veterinary Care
At Help in Suffering’s Camel Rescue Centre (CRC), the vet team treated 484 camels during April. Conditions treated included colic, skin disease, worms and wounds. Two of the camels’ stories are below:
Story One
Ashish was concerned about his camel’s health, so brought him into the CRC. The camel was suffering from two issues: mange - a common skin condition in camels, and stomatitis - inflammation of the mouth that makes eating painful.
The vet team treated the camel with appropriate medications, including digestive aids to alleviate some of his discomfort. Additionally, they provided the owner with a medicated skin solution to bathe his camel in. This will help to soothe his skin. The team will follow up this camel’s progress to ensure his skin heals properly.

Story Two
Lalaram's camel had been suffering from colic and loss of appetite for three days. The CRC team discovered that the camel was being fed food mixed with sand, which likely contributed to her condition. Dr Himanshu advised the owner to discontinue this practice immediately.
The camel’s treatment included fluids to address dehydration, medication to relieve colic, and deworming medicine to improve her overall health.
In addition to assisting hundreds of camels during April, the CRC team also:
Provided veterinary treatment for 271 other animals, including dogs, cats, cows, goats, horses, monkeys and birds.
Issued 34 plastic nose pegs for camels, which are safer and more humane than wooden or metal ones.
Fitted 52 camel carts with reflectors to prevent road accidents at night.
Cared for 34 rescued animals at their shelter.
All of this is made possible with your kind and generous donations! Heartfelt thanks for your ongoing support, which is changing the lives of vulnerable camels and other animals in India.
