In Dukuchhap, Nepal, Animal Nepal, supported by Animal Aid Abroad, provides lifelong sanctuary care for rescued working animals while advancing education and advocacy to improve welfare standards nationwide. Their work combines compassionate treatment with awareness‑raising, creating lasting change for animals across the country.

Sanctuary Residents and Seasonal Challenges

With the arrival of monsoon rains, the sanctuary team has been vigilant in protecting animals and infrastructure from damage. Despite heavy rainfall, facilities remain safe and residents continue to receive attentive care.

Among the residents, Moni the donkey experienced mild lameness but recovered quickly after hoof trimming and cleaning. Kumari, a rescued bull, continues to receive treatment for an old leg injury, while Kaali the cow is carefully managed during her recurring seizure episodes. These cases reflect the sanctuary’s commitment to providing tailored veterinary care and comfort for animals with long‑term needs.

Education and Advocacy Initiatives

Beyond direct care, the sanctuary serves as a hub for education and advocacy. Visits from groups such as Kathmandu Animal Save allow participants to meet rescued animals, hear their stories, and gain insight into the realities of animal exploitation. These experiences inspire compassion and encourage broader change.

In June, 120 students from National Law College visited the sanctuary. They engaged in discussions on animal protection laws and learned about the lives of rescued animals. Involving future legal professionals in welfare advocacy is an important step toward strengthening protections for animals in Nepal.
