Rescued Donkeys Find Comfort and Safety in Indian Sanctuaries

Thanks to your ongoing support, our partner group in India, Animal Aid Unlimited (AAU), are able to continue caring for rescued donkeys in two peaceful sanctuaries.

They currently have 15 donkeys living at their primary sanctuary and 10 donkeys living at their Animal Birth Control (ABC) centre.

Sadly, a donkey living at the main sanctuary called Sam passed away on June 26th. Another donkey who was in AAU’s hospital was moved into the sanctuary as a new member of the herd. Since he has a permanent limp, he cannot be released. AAU have named him Bob.

All the donkeys at the ABC centre are healthy and have not had any medical issues recently, apart from a minor superficial wound on one female donkey. This healed within a few days.

AAU recently built a new spacious and comfortable barn for the rescued donkeys. Their previous shelter was a simple tin roof in a fenced area and had been deteriorating for a while. The new barn provides plenty of room and protection from the elements.

As for AAU’s hospital, they admitted two donkeys for wound treatment in mid-May, and both donkeys were released fully healed at the end of June.

There are currently three donkeys who are under treatment: one was admitted in mid-June for a fracture; one was admitted at the end of June for a wound on his leg; and one was admitted in the same period for a superficial burn on his thigh.

AAU have expressed their immense gratitude for the assistance provided by AAA, and are hoping to continue running their sanctuaries indefinitely. Sadly, there is still an ongoing need to rescue working donkeys from mistreatment or neglect.

With your wonderful support and donations, we will continue to assist AAU in their mission to care for as many donkeys as possible.
