India ~ Help in Suffering September report

In September, the Camel Rescue Centre team conducted 25 clinics with Animal Aid Abroad’s support. At these clinics, besides medical treatment and worming, 14 carts were fitted with nighttime safety reflectors and 7 nose pegs were replaced with humane plastic pegs. The case studies for this month included

Case-1

At Sindholi, Ramprashad was concerned about his camel, which had developed a severe wound between the toes of its right hind limb. The wound was heavily infested with maggots, causing considerable discomfort and making every step potentially painful. The veterinary team attended to the camel, carefully removing the maggots and thoroughly cleaning the affected area. Appropriate medication and wound dressing were provided to help control infection and promote healing. Ramprashad was guided on keeping the wound clean, protecting it from flies, and ensuring regular follow-up care. For a camel struggling with such a painful condition, timely treatment was an important step towards relief and recovery. Ramprashad received guidance and support to help his camel heal and regain comfortable movement.

Case-2

At Luniyawas, Kanharam was concerned because his camel had lost its appetite and was not eating as usual. On examination, the camel was found to have a tick infestation, which can cause irritation, discomfort, and weakness when severe. The veterinary team provided appropriate treatment to control the ticks and addressed the camel’s reduced appetite with supportive care. Kanharam was advised to provide clean drinking water, suitable feed, and a clean resting area while keeping a close watch on the camel’s recovery. For a working animal, loss of appetite can be worrying for its owner, especially when its health affects everyday activities. Timely veterinary attention gave Kanharam’s camel the care it needed and offered its owner reassurance and guidance for its continued recovery.
