Shepherd dogs injured by wild pigs in Kurdistan

In Kurdistan, many of the farmers own more than ten shepherd dogs to protect their flock from wild animals such as pigs, wolves, hyenas, jackals, foxes and stray dogs. During the month of December, AAA partner group Kurdistan Organization for Animal Rights Protection (KOARP) treated a number of shepherd dogs who had been seriously injured when a group of pigs attacked the flock they were protecting. These brave dogs fought with the wild pigs, and not one sheep was harmed during the attack. The dogs however sustained some injuries during the incident, which were treated by Dr Sulaiman and his team.

In addition to this case, the team also treated a total of 2705 animals during their mobile clinics. This included 51 donkeys, 2 mares, 3 stallions, 2463 sheep, goat and cattle, 71 shepherd dogs, and 115 poultry. The team also provided advice and guidance on good management and treatment of all animals to the village communities.
