Meet Seven New Residents at Starting Over’s Sanctuary

With assistance from your fantastic donations, 43 rescued donkeys are currently being cared for at Starting Over’s sanctuary in Israel.

Some of the sanctuary’s newest residents include Carambola, Liat and her daughter Robin, Metallica, Noel, Shebakia and Yennefer.

In June, seven donkeys entered the intensive care unit - the Hope Compound:

  • One jenny entered the compound for treatment and observation following the removal of granulation tissue from her leg.

  • An older jenny was found in a ditch after being abandoned. She is weak and scared, and needs to gain weight. The medical staff hope to introduce her gently to her new surroundings, so her treatment is both behavioural and dietary.

  • A jenny who suffers from recurrent skin injuries of her ear entered the compound with her daughter for treatment and observation.

  • One jenny entered the compound to gain weight.

  • Two jennies returned to the compound to live there permanently and receive a higher level of care: one who is blind and another jenny who suffers from pressure sores.

Eleven donkeys also left the Hope Compound in June:

  • Four donkeys left following the successful completion of treatments: one with an eye injury, one following a dental procedure, and two following improvement of their skin conditions.

  • One jenny gained enough weight and returned to her old compound.

  • Another jenny moved to the infirmary for more treatment of her extensive skin condition.

  • Four donkeys moved to the quarantine area prior to being transported to Europe. They include two donkeys who were in the compound for weight gain, along with their two companions.

  • Finally, Athens left the compound to enter the nursery after giving birth to baby Troy.

During June, Starting Over also flew another 50 rescued donkeys to Europe. They will find their forever homes there and will be well looked after from now on.

Thank you so much for your ongoing kindness and support, which is allowing Starting Over to give many donkeys a second chance at life.
