Horse Sanctuary Expanded with Funding from AAA

With assistance from your kind donations, we were recently able to fund a new sanctuary area for our partner group, Horses of Gili, based on the Gili Islands in Indonesia.

Horses of Gili desperately required this new land due to overcrowding. The extra land includes small and large paddocks, and a round pen. It will allow 10-12 rescued or retired horses and ponies to live here, and will provide an exercise area for animals requiring rehabilitation. There is also a small house for staff use and food storage.

The small paddock is currently being used to house three retired horses full time, while the larger paddock is used by other rescued horses during the day to run, frolic and graze.

One rescued animal living at the new sanctuary is former rubbish-collecting pony, Chocolate. He is blind in one eye and had previous lameness, which has now resolved. Chocolate receives daily grooming, basic halter training, hoof care and socialisation. Due to his anxious temperament, he cannot attend beach walks yet or be turned out with the other horses, so at night he is allowed into the larger paddock on his own.

Thanks to your generous support, more horses like Chocolate can be rescued and cared for in future. They will have enough room to exercise, graze and heal from their former harsh working lives.
