Bringing Relief & Hope to Equines Working on India’s Streets

Animal Aid Abroad, together with our incredible local partner Friendicoes, is alleviating suffering for equines working in harsh street conditions across India. In February alone, Friendicoes treated 870 equines for a wide range of conditions, rescued four more animals in need, and distributed humane equipment to improve daily welfare. Thanks to your support, these animals are finding relief, dignity, and hope.

Highlighted Cases

  • Colic: Treated with pain relief, fluid therapy, and laxatives, leading to full recovery.

  • Sharp barbed wire injury: Severe foreleg wound cleaned, dressed, and treated with antibiotics, painkillers, and tetanus vaccine.

  • Backsore from saddle injury: Proper wound care and medication administered.

  • Road accident: Lacerated wound below the eye treated with antiseptics, antibiotics, and supportive care.

Distribution of Soft Padding

To prevent saddle sores and improve comfort, 200 soft‑padded keens were distributed to animals working in brick kilns. This simple intervention is making life far more humane for equines and bullocks.

February Rescues

Friendicoes also rescued four equines in urgent need:

Haryana Police Horse: Retired and brought to the sanctuary to live out his life in peace.

Horse from Loni: Abandoned roadside with an eye injury, now safe at the shelter.

Pony from Okhla: Abandoned and suffering from arthritis, rescued to sanctuary care.

Pony from Pataudi: Found with severe lameness, now living safely at Friendicoes.

Paravet Activity

Friendicoes’ hardworking paravets provided follow‑up care and treatments for 541 equines during February. Their dedication ensures continuity of care and long‑term welfare improvements for animals across communities.

Conclusion and Appreciation

These equines only found relief from pain and suffering because of your ongoing, generous support. With Friendicoes and AAA working together, animals once abandoned or injured are now living with greater comfort, dignity, and well-being.

Together, we are turning burden into care — and proving that local partnerships are the key to global change.
