Introducing Our New Partner Group: Blue Cross of India
Animal Aid Abroad has welcomed a new partner group in India called Blue Cross (BCI).
BCI was established in 1959 by Captain V. Sundaram and his family. Initially beginning as a small group, it grew to become one of the country's largest animal protection organisations, running active animal welfare, animal rights and humane education programmes.
BCI runs hospitals and shelters for injured or unwell stray dogs, cats, cattle, horses and birds in Chennai. They also provide animal ambulances and a mobile dispensary.
The non-medical division of the organisation is looked after by volunteers. BCI has received several national and international awards.
The aim of our partnership is to help draught animals like bullocks and donkeys, horses used for beach rides, and cows used for dairy purposes. These cows have been rescued following accidents, or from illegal slaughter, or after being abandoned on the streets in and around Chennai.
Our funding will help to support maintenance costs, which include feeding and providing medical aid for the rescued working animals at the Blue Cross shelter in Chennai.
