Free Vet Care + Owner Education Changing Animals’ Lives

Action for Protection of Wild Animals (APOWA) are one of our partner groups in India. With assistance from your heartfelt donations, they are dedicated to reducing the suffering of working animals in India.

During October, 92 working animals - mainly bullocks and horses - received essential veterinary care through APOWA’s mobile clinic. They also vaccinated and dewormed 211 animals.

The mobile veterinary clinic provides essential services to working animals owned by economically disadvantaged individuals who struggle to find affordable vet care.

In October, they treated 92 bullocks and horses for conditions including fever, respiratory illnesses, digestive disorders, wounds, infections, diarrhoea, skin conditions and malnutrition. The clinic's efforts not only improve working animals' quality of life but also empower their owners by providing guidance on proper animal care and humane management practices.

Training Sessions

Along with vet care, the APOWA team conducted training sessions for 35 animal owners in October. They emphasised proper nutrition, hygiene, early signs of illness, and timely medical intervention and regular check-ups to prevent health issues.

In addition, APOWA provided seasonal guidance on monsoon-related animal care and cyclone preparedness measures, which will help owners to protect their animals from weather-related risks. Overall, the owners’ understanding of animal health, welfare and best husbandry practices was enhanced.

Last month, 22 animal owners also received support through the project’s helpline service. This provides timely veterinary advice and guidance to prevent potential health issues.

Working Animal Champions

In October, 37 bullocks and horses received essential first aid care from trained Working Animal Champions. These timely interventions alleviated immediate health concerns and helped to prevent the development of more serious conditions.

Follow-Up Visits

APOWA’s vet team conducted 24 follow-up visits during October to monitor the recovery and overall health of previously treated horses and bullocks.

They also completed follow-up visits for 31 animals who had received vaccinations, to monitor them for any adverse reactions.

Due to your compassion for working animals, many lives have already been changed for the better. We could not fund essential programs like those run by APOWA without you, so thank you for walking this journey with us towards a kinder world for all.
