Friendships Blossom in Nepalese Sanctuary
Due to your heartfelt donations, we are able to continue supporting Animal Nepal’s wonderful sanctuary. The rescued animals here have finally found safety and peace, and are able to form special friendships with other residents.

This month brought a transition in our veterinary care team. We bid a warm farewell to Tara Budathoki, our dedicated vet technician, and thank her for her valuable contributions to the sanctuary. In her place, we are pleased to welcome back Mana Nepali as our new vet technician. Mana previously worked for Animal Nepal for almost 10 years and has extensive experience working with equines and large animals. Due to his pre-existing relationship with our sanctuary residents, it’s reassuring for us and our residents.

With the monsoon season beginning, we’ve taken important steps to ensure we remain prepared. Road access to the sanctuary can be impacted by heavy rains, so we’ve stockpiled essential supplies—including food, medicine, and other care materials—to cover the next two months. This ensures that no matter the weather, our animals will continue to receive uninterrupted care and comfort.
We’re happy to share that all our residents remain in good spirits and health, and it’s been especially heartwarming to witness the growing interspecies friendships among them. Watching dogs, goats, cows and equines form quiet, gentle bonds with each other is a daily reminder of the peace and harmony possible when animals feel safe and loved. If possible, we would just spend all our time at the sanctuary; you don’t notice the day go by watching the animals and in the process we get to learn so much about them and their personalities.
Our donkeys Bruna and Sangeet are a bonded pair, as are Raamri and Moni. Donkeys are pack animals, so always have a best friend they spend the majority of their time with. It’s most noticeable when they are grooming one another, as they only do this within their bonded pair. After Moni lost her mum Soni, we were so worried about her but Raamri stepped in and took such good care of Moni.

While our mules and horses don’t have a single best friend, our mini horse Apache and hinny Haluman are also bonded and always spend time with each other. Similarly, our bulls Kumari and Prawin are inseparable, as are our buffalo Lakshmi and cow Kaali.

Asharam - our new buffalo calf - is very sweet and friendly but he has not found a best friend yet and the rest of the animals are just tolerating him for now. We hope that he will also soon have a best friend of his own, especially as he is so playful.

As always, thank you for walking this journey with us. Your support makes this sanctuary a true home for those who need it most.
