Great work being done in Liberia

The Liberia Animal Welfare & Conservation Society (LAWCS) were productive in the last two months of 2020. Here is a summary of their activities in November and December:

"For the months of November and December, 2020, we were very active in the field reaching out to many working animal owners and their children with various animal welfare activities and messages. The objective of the education programme is to ensure that the animal owners and their children are equipped with knowledge about the plight of working animals and how their actions can directly impact the lives of the animals. The education programme provided the opportunity for the animal owners and their children to reflect on the substantial contributions of working animals in poverty eradication, the suffering of working animals and how they can reduce the suffering of working animals. 798 adults and 921 children were met with the education programme. They all appreciated the organization for the lifesaving programme. According to them, it was the first time in the region for an organization to be so caring about the health and welfare of their animals. They promised to focus on meeting the health and welfare needs to their animals to keep them happy and healthy.

A total of 15 towns were visited with 694 donkeys, 10 horses and 630 cattle treated from various welfare and health conditions. 128 donkeys were provided with supplementary food to improve their health. In December, we also did a survey to ascertain the impacts of the project and the followings were found out:

1. Communities reached with the project are now more compassionate to animals than communities never reached

2. People in communities reached are providing the best care for their animals than before

3. More people have built shelter for their animals than before

4. The animals are now happy and healthy than before

5. Animal abuse cases have drastically reduced

6. The children are more caring and compassionate toward animals

7. People are now more willing and happy to discuss the plight of their animals

8. The communities are now serving as watchdogs for the protection of animals

9. The death rate of working animals due to suffering and preventable diseases has drastically reduced

10. The working animals are considered as key players in poverty eradication

Thank you to LAWCS for this fantastic work.
