The Meru Animal Welfare Organization(MAWO) have updated us on their September activities:

"On 12th of September 2020 we carried out a donkey clinic at Losoito village. A total of 203 donkeys were dewormed by using 1% Ivermectin and to control both endoparisite and ectoparasites for animal’s health.
22 donkeys had wounds and most of the wounds were due to poor harnessing, cart, tying of the leg with narrow rope and sometimes from the animals biting each other. These wounds were cleaned with iodine, treated with pen strep (antibiotics), meloxicom (pain relief) and topical antibiotic wound spray.
Among the management done during the donkey clinic was hoof trimming, in order to avoid rotten hooves as well as smoothing the hooves for pain relief during walking.
We found some of the wounds were due to poor harnessing, therefore we did harnessing demonstrations and educated the community about the importance of humane harnessing for animal health.
The community which received the donated clinic extend their gratitude and appreciate the service to their donkeys. MAWO is also giving thanks to AAA for the support in improving and raising awareness of animal welfare through education and practical training to the community. We do hope and look forward for more collaboration and more work so as to save lives of many more animals"
