Tanzania Humane Charity December 2022 Report

During December 2022, the Tanzanian Humane Charity (TAHUCHA) team managed to conduct donkey clinics in 103 villages within the Bukombe district. Alongside these clinics, the team delivered donkey humane handling training to the community champions who are interested in donkey welfare. 48 new donkey champions have been trained in villages which are far away from our sanctuary.

Through this activity, 216 new donkeys have been reached in three villages which is within Kigosi National Park and all these donkeys have been provided with potential medical care and owners trained on how to control tsetse flies for trypanosomiasis infections.

TAHUCHA also managed to solve a conflict between donkey owners and the Kigosi National Parks task force by advising Kigosi National Park security to avoid the shooting of donkeys which are found grazing or working by carrying logs in the park, and rather to confine donkeys in the park yard and find the owners in order to pay fees for illegaly working in the restricted national park.

TAHUCHA and the donkey owners in the BUKOMBE districts extend their sincere appreciation to ANIMAL AID ABROAD for being keen to help to improve donkey health and welfare in northwest of Tanzania.
