Kurdistan Organization of Animal Rights Protection (KOARP) - JulyDuri activity

During July, Dr Sulaiman of KOARP treated a total of 2,192 different animals in various villages through his district.

One of the animals the treated was a case they first came across in November last year. It was a cow who had been unable to stand for more than 50 days. The owner was ready to put her down, however Dr Sulaiman managed to convince the owner to give them some time to medicate and rehabilitate the animal. Sure enough after careful treatment and monitoring, the cow is now standing and eating well, and as of July this year, is now pregnant.

Another of the cases being dealt with is that if a very aggressive and restless male donkey. He has bitten sheep, goats and even small children, so something has to be done. The owner had first thought to just abandon the animal, then considered castrating in the old traditional method which is inhumane and carries much risk. Dr Sulaiman luckily stepped in in time and convinced the owner to arrange for a surgical castration, which will be done in the most humane way possible and should hopefully bring the donkey’s behaviour into line.
