Liberian Animal Welfare and Conservation Society (LAWCS) - June Report
Our partner group in Liberia, LAWCS, have sent us an update on their June Activity:
The team identified 30 communities with working animals in the Kankan region. These communities were identified for the implementation of the project and the assessment in the 30 communities recorded 3,715 donkeys, 2,972 working cattle and 25 horses.
They held an awareness meeting with the local chiefs and community heads for animals in each of the 30 communities about the project and its expected impacts for the animals and people who depend on them
A working animal welfare education program was conducted in 10 communities with 803 people including children and women. The awareness education program gave the community members the opportunity to reflect on the plight of the animals, the contributions of the animals and how they can improve the health and welfare of their animals. These community people appreciated the organization for creating the platform for them to discuss on the health and welfare of their own animals that are contributing to their own improvement.
They provided basic veterinary care and treatments for 371 working animals in 10 communities. The organization provides the only basic veterinary services for working animals in the region. The services have made working animal owners to value their animals and have started providing the basic care and protection for the animals
The project has started reducing cruelty to working animals in the various communities.
