Grassroots education in Tanzania

AAA partner group LAWAZO in Butiama, Tanzania have sent us a report on their August activity:

"LAZAWO conducted the donkey mobile clinic in Butiama villages at which 213 donkeys were provided with veterinary medical care, and 3 camels were also treated.
In Butiama villages, LAZAWO has brought together the two formulated groups of donkey keeping champions each with 15 members so that they can exchange their skills on donkey welfare. The discussion was under the supervision of the LAZAWO team.
One story of a mother with her donkey:
It was a market day in a village when we meet Maria and her two donkeys, one donkey (named Maisha) with a very big load on her back and the other young donkey with no cargo (named Kadogo). The adult donkey, Maisha with the heavy cargo was walking and when Maisha saw us coming, she lay down. We then we had a dialogue with Maria as follows:
LAZAWO: Why is Maisha is caring such huge and heavy cargo?
Maria: This is the only adult donkey I have remaining
LAZAWO: you said this is the only adult donkey remaining, what happened?
Maria: I used to have 4 donkeys at my home, 9 months ago I found 3 of my donkeys had died. Maisha at that time had this small baby donkey, but as you can see he is still young and I cannot use him. I’m not happy with Maisha caring this huge cargo but as you can see I can not force this young donkey and it is not easy for me to divide the cargo and carry it two times.
We educated Maria on donkeys carrying capacity and promised to find a way to work with her very closely to prevent this situation occurring again."
