Sonya is a 17-year-old bullock who was retired from the Kranti sugar factory during the initial launch of Animal Rahat’s tractor project in 2012. His former partner at the factory, Sunder, was retired with him. Undergoing trauma together often causes humans to form lifelong bonds (e.g., soldiers in a platoon). Judging by the fact that Sonya and Sunder still seek out each other’s company, it seems that working alongside one another while hauling enormous loads and enduring beatings and other miseries may have had a similar bonding effect.
Sonya is a large bullock, healthy and fit. Although initially aggressive, he has calmed tremendously since moving to the new sanctuary last year. Like most large bullocks, Sonya has a healthy appetite. He especially enjoys the salt lick. Some bullocks remain standing during grooming sessions, but Sonya likes to maximize the relaxation factor by reclining when being groomed.
Due to his larger size, the smaller bullocks at the sanctuary tend to give him a lot of space. He does have friends aside from Sunder, two other large bullocks named Jim and Fallon.
